Key Points

  1. The bridge over Vembanad Lake connecting Perumbalam Island to the mainland is set to open by mid-February 2026.
  2. The bridge project costs ₹100 crore and is funded by the Kerala Infrastructure Investment Fund Board (KIIFB).
  3. The bowstring arch bridge is 1,157 m long and 11 m wide, linking Perumbalam and Vaduthala in Arookutty.
  4. The bridge has 30 spans, including three navigation spans of 55 m each, with 27 spans being 35 m long.
  5. The carriageway is 7.5 m wide, with footpaths on both sides that are 1.5 m wide.
  6. Approach roads to the bridge will have a combined length of 650 m.
  7. The bridge will benefit approximately 15,000 residents of Perumbalam Island, the only island grama panchayat in Alappuzha district.
  8. The Perumbalam bridge work is being carried out by the Uralungal Labour Contract Cooperative Society.
